This Broadway Limited EMD SD40 Low-Nose diesel locomotive is based on the popular 3,000 horsepower diesels used across North America. Between 1966 and 1972, General Motors built 1268 of these locomotives before introducing the new SD40-2. The SD40s operated throughout the US and Canada for decades, and a some still run for their second or third owners. This model has full Paragon4 sound and DCC with a GoPack for realistic, reliable sound and motor control. The Paragon4 sound system works with all Broadway Limited Rolling Thunder(TM) advanced sound systems. Other features include a smooth-running flywheel-equipped drive, roadname-appropriate detailing and magnetic knuckle couplers. The EMD SD40 can be operated on all DCC systems as well as on standard DC railroads (with limited sound functionality). This model has wheels profiled to operate on Code 70 and larger rail and curves of 18" radius but larger curves are recommended. The EMD SD40 is one of many Broadway Limited HO Scale Paragon4 locomotives.
